Tiwi House Beach Cottage

Tiwi House Beach Cottage

Tiwi House is a beautifully furnished modern house beach cottage with an indigenous Swahili/Arabic style situated at Tiwi Beach, Diani on a cliff top above the Indian Ocean,

fourteen kilometres south of Mombasa in Kenya and three kilometres off the main Kenya/Tanzania road.

The beach house cottage is one hour from Mombasa’s Moi International Airport which has around 10 scheduled services to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport daily via Kenya Airways. The house is 20 minutes from Ukunda Airstrip for private charters and almost daily service to & from Nairobi, Mombasa, the Maasai Mara, Tsavo East and West and Amboseli with Air Kenya and other airlines.

Many old trees surround the area with numerous native birds and wildlife present, including bush babies, vervet and colobus monkeys, monitor lizards, mongoose, dik dik, serval cats and many more.

ACCOMMODATION:

The house has three large bedrooms, all of which have their own bathroom. There is a  fourth bedroom, “en suite” with the third. This has three beds and the whole suite is ideal for one family with younger children. A large “infinity” swimming pool, immediately in front of the house, looks over a semi private beach, reef and the Indian Ocean. The house will host up to 9 very comfortably and, depending on the guest mix, there is plenty of room for a few more!

ACTIVITIES:
In the immediate vicinity there are many scenic walks, and an easy scramble along the reef at low tide are the lovely Tiwi rock pools. One can also go along the reef and beach to the Tiwi river. Here you can see magnificent sunsets silhouetting the ancient Baobab trees near the old Kongo mosque, a building dating back centuries. The river is home to many birds including the rare night jar heron.

Diani, a popular European tourist destination is 12 kilometres drive away to the south. There you will find banks, restaurants, supermarkets, boutiques, bars, discos, casinos, car rental, hospitals, dentists and an 18-hole championship golf course.

Deep sea fishing and any kind of safari can also be arranged from there.
The nearest game park is the Shimba Hills Reserve, just 30 minutes drive from the house. The park is famed for it's elephants, cape buffalo and the rare sable antelope. Further afield but still only three or four hours by car is the largest game reserve in the world, Tsavo National Park. Here you will find all the big game Africa has to offer, including rhinoceros.

There are air links from the local Ukunda airstrip to all other major parks in Kenya, including the famed Maasai Mara. The marine parks of Shimoni and Kisite are just over an hour away by car.
