Zanzibar Island

Zanzibar is an exotic land. This spice island is a tropical idyll true to its reputation. Zanzibar town is filled with old historic buildings, and to prove it there is a story behind each one. At the heart of Zanzibar is the fascinating Stone Town where time has seemingly stood still. The island is dotted with several ruins from the turbulent times past. During harvest season, between July and December, the air hangs thick with the scent of clove. Along the east coast there are endless beautiful beaches and inviting aquamarine waters. Half a day's dhow ride from Zanzibar is the true clove capital of the world - Pemba Island. With abundant rainfall and rich soil the island is also called Al Kuhdra - 'the Green Island'. Offshore lies the Pemba Channel, blessed by a multitude of fish, this is recognized by game fishermen as some of the finest waters off the east coast of Africa. As with Zanzibar, the island is dotted with ruins from its rich historical past. South of Zanzibar, Mafia Island sits at the mouth of the Rufiji River. This is another favourite haunt of big-game fishermen and scuba divers, boasting some record catches and a magical coral paradise. The amazing mermaid-like dugong breeds among the grasses of the Majira Channel, which also plays host to the awesome great white shark. On the beaches of small islands to the east of Mafia, the giant sea turtle lays its eggs. All these three Tanzanian islands allow the tourist the chance to experience the sheer romance of paradisical tropical isles in the sun.

Zanzibar Beaches

Need to sooth your soul? Then Zanzibar Beaches are the place to relax, unwind and breathe in new life. After a lengthy safari there is no better way to end your holiday than on the white, blissful beaches of Zanzibar, lazing away, sipping cocktails and living the island paradise dream.
If you have a keen sense of adventure then dive under the most turquoise coloured waters you'll ever see and explore the coral reefs and their wild inhabitants. Sunsets, bonfires on beaches and fine cuisine will spoil you no end. Ever felt like a king on his own island? Come to Zanzibar beaches and taste paradise.

Zanzibar Hotels

The name Zanzibar invokes images of spice, colourful fabrics and exotic beaches with fringing coral reefs. Zanzibar hotels are as intriguing as the Spice Island, excellent and charismatic, both in the historic Stone Town - the only functioning ancient town in East Africa - as well as on the pristine beaches.

Stonetown has a fine spattering of great hotels - which themselves offer a haven from the energetic life in Zanzibar. We urge visitors to combine a short stay in Stone Town, to explore the history and architecture of the isles' cultural heart, with a stay at one of the beautiful Indian Ocean beaches.

The east coast of Zanzibar Island (Unguja) also features several establishments on the beach, ranging from small and intimate properties to larger resort outfits. Further afield, great lodges can be found on Pemba and Mafia, and smaller islands such as Chumbe and Mnemba.

No two Zanzibar hotels are alike, but all are alluring. Zanzibar, together with its hotels, is guaranteed to entice you.
