This 13 day Tanzania Vacation has been designed to encompass the ultimate 'big game' safari locations in Southern Tanzania. It's an ideal choice because after the drama of the big-game safari there is still time to enjoy a few days relaxing on one of the famous white sandy beaches of Zanzibar.

Going on vacation in Tanzania doesn't have to be hard work. After a day out game viewing or an exciting foot safari you will return to the comforts of your private cottage or luxury tent, and there's also a couple of 'easy' days when you have the chance to lie-in and recharge those traveling batteries.

Itinerary breakdown:

* 4 days and 4 nights at Rufigi River Camp, in Selous Game Reserve, with two transfers by light plane.

* 1.5 days and 2 nights at Kikoboga Wildlife Lodge, Mikumi National Park

* 1 day and 1 night at Sanje Waterfalls campsite, Udzungwa Mountains N.P.

* 1.5 days and 2 nights at Kisolanza Farm, Southern Highlands

* 3 days and 3 nights at Mwagusi Safari Camp, Ruaha National Park, with one transfer by light aircraft to Dar.

Day 1 - Pick up in Dar Es Salaam and transfer to the domestic airport, here you will catch a light plane to the Selous Game Reserve, the largest conservation area in Tanzania and the world, with the exception of the polar regions. You will be met and transferred to Rufiji River Camp. this comfortable camp is located on a bend on the river. Crocodile and large pods hippo may be seen from the bar. You will have an afternoon boat safari on the Rufigi River.

Day 2 - Full day exploring Selous, game viewing activities are chosen from incredible boat safaris, game drives and walking safaris (accompanied by an armed ranger for your protection). Returning to Rufiji River Camp in time for sunset drinks and another fantastic meal.

Day 3 - A day of game viewing activities including a boat or walking safari and game drive, plus time to relax by the swimming pool. Based at Rufiji River Camp

Day 4 - A day of game viewing activities including a boat or walking safari and game drive, plus time to relax by the swimming pool. Based at Rufiji River Camp

Day 5 - transfer by light aircraft to Dar Es Salaam, you will be met by a safari vehicle and transferred to Mikumi National Park,packed lunch en-route you will arrive in Mikumi in time settle in at Kikoboga Safari Lodge (also known as Mikumi Wildlife Lodge). Enjoy the views over the floodplain and go for a sunset game drive. Mikumi is one of Tanzania's larger parks and has excellent bird life as well as being good for predators.

Day 6 - An extensive morning game drive takes you out to Mwanambogo Dam, where many animals come for water. Lunch back at Kikoboga, then an evening game drive.

Day 7 - Transfer to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, then hike to Sanje Waterfalls where you can swim in idyllic plunge-pools and camp at the top of a 180m waterfall. The hike is short (2hrs) but quite steep in places. The afternoon is free for you to visit site of the endemic African Violets and explore the forests and waterfalls. Overnight camping (2-man dome tents) next to the falls.

Day 8 - Wake up to watch the sunrise over the Kilombero Valley, an amazing sight from the natural viewing platform of rock above the waterfalls. After breakfast, transfer to Kisolanza Farm in the Southern Highlands, arriving in time for lunch. There will be an afternoon excursion to visit Isimila Stone Age Site and Sandstone Pillars. Dinner will be served at the Old Farm House.

Day 9 - The walking trails around the farm provide a fantastic opportunity for birdwatching, with an impressive checklist of 250 bird species recorded in the area. The area can also be explored on horseback. An all day excursion to visit a Forestry Conservation Project can be arranged (please contact us for more details).

Day 10 - Transfer to Ruaha National Park where you will stay at the beautiful Mwagusi Safari Camp, situated on the banks of the Sand River. After lunch and a relaxing afternoon there will be a sunset game drive.

Day 11 - Full day game viewing activities, including a foot safari and game drive. Dinners are always memorable affairs, served under the stars often on the sand river itself!

Day 12 - The camp itself is immensely comfortable, yet with a real bush feel. If you can pull yourself away then there is another whole day to explore this remote and dramatic Park.

Day 13 - Transfer by light aircraft to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.
